@velocast-style pick of the week

Oily rag, originally uploaded by Owen P.

My Velocast-style pick of the week is “Old T-Shirts”.

Old T-Shirts are essential for bike maintenance. They can be used to clean and polish lightly dirtied bike parts, with or without soapy water. After that they can be used for the thick mucky crud that ruins an old toothbrush or a proper bike cleaning brush in an instant. Slipping an edge in between the cogs and pulling it back and forth is a good way to get dirt out of those hard-to-reach areas.

Furthermore, this helps me to weed out the T-shirts in my wardrobe that just refuse to die.

    That is a sad story Cillian. This t-shirt was for the Great North Run 2004 (Glasgow half marathon). It's use as an oily rag is symbolic, I think, given that I have only got into cycling in a big way in the past 3 or so years.
  • When I was younger, my Dad gave me a gift of a pink Giro d'Italia t-shirt. I didn't appreciate it at the time not knowing the significance of the pink. "A Pink t-shirt Dad? Jaysus!". So I wore it while I painted my room years ago. Now it's totally ruined and I really regret using it while painting.

    But, like yourself, I have plenty of lurky candidates in the back of the wardrobe to be used in the future!

    Ahh, the ubiquitous Martha Van...
  • Excellent choice Mr P. I'm currently using washed Action Wipes http://www.actionwipes.com/, I've run out of T Shirts. ;-(
