Approaching finish at Stirling Castle

Following yesterday’s post on the climb to Stirling Castle, here is a shot of a Gan rider pushing up the final cobbles to the castle esplanade on the prologue of the 1998 PruTour. I reckon this is Magnus Backstedt? <edit— Magnus reckoned it was Jens Voigt>The prologue was won by Chris Boardman from George Hincapie, with second favourite Viatcheslav Ekimov a little way back.

i remember tartan shorts, Neil Stephens was tiny, Eros Poli's legs were taller than all of me and Sean Yates looked a bit scary…

Magnus Backstedt himself informed me on twitter that this is not he, but big Jens Voigt. I'm still looking for memories of this day from riders and spectators. Rode the hill 7 times this lunchtime, would love to know what it feels like at real race pace.
